Mumbai Rising
India has recently become the 12th largest economy in the world and of late, the third largest in Asia. The bureaucratic socialist economy that was implemented after the British left in1947 has been drastically liberalised in the last couple of decades. As the business world starts to take advantage of India’s unique commercial advantages cities like Mumbai are adding further layers to those already extant from its’ long history. Perhaps one of the most significant is the burgeoning rank of the middle classes.
This recent project focuses on the young emerging middle class of Mumbai capitalising on the new opportunities and lifestyles offered by it's booming economy. A small section of society that has progressed at lightning speed over the last ten years, whilst the majority of Mumbai’s inhabitants live the same as fifty years before. It explores the new environments these Mumbaiker's live, work and play in, and the increasing fluidity of Indian society.
